Terry plays down flare danger
England captain John Terry refused to make any excuses after the 1-0 World Cup qualifying defeat to Ukraine in Dnipro.
The game was twice delayed in the first half when flares were thrown onto the pitch but Terry was quick to gloss over the incidents.
England played for most of the match with ten men following Robert Green's early dismissal while Ukraine eventually claimed all three points thanks to Serhiy Nazarenko's strike.
Terry said after the defeat: "We didn't feel at all in danger because of the flares. We were disappointed in the first half and we can't blame the flares on this and the other.
"There have been certain games in this group where we've had to tackle situations and we've got through them. We can't look at the flares as an excuse. In the opening half, we weren't at our best.
"To go down to ten men after so little time made it very difficult but, in the second half, we gave it a right go and there were some positives to come out of the second 45 minutes."

Rooney drops out of squad
Wayne Rooney has been forced to drop out of the England squad for Wednesday's World Cup qualifier against Belarus.
The former Everton striker has returned to Manchester United after a scan showed that he had suffered a calf injury in Saturday's1-0 defeat against Ukraine.
A brief statement on the FA's official websiute added: "Steven Gerrard was assessed by the medical staff and will remain with the squad but, following a scan on his calf, Wayne Rooney has returned to Manchester United."
Meanwhile, Fabio Capello has drafted United goalkeeper Ben Foster into his squad for Wednesday's game as a replacement for the suspended Robert Green.
Foster was omitted from the squad for Saturday's defeat after being sent for scans on bruised ribs sustained in United's 2-2 draw with Sunderland last weekend.
The 26-year-old endured a poor game against the Black Cats and was criticised for allowing Kenwyne Jones to head the visitors into the lead in the second half.
He was also at fault for two Manchester City goals in last month's 4-3 derby win for Sir Alex Ferguson's side at Old Trafford.
Green misses Wednesday's game after being sent off in the opening stages of Saturday's loss in Dnipro.
David James is expected to start against Belarus after coming on as a substitute for Aaron Lennon after Green's early departure.
Foster has two England caps to his name. He made his international debut when he started the 1-0 friendly defeat to Spain in February 2007 and then came on as a substitute against Slovakia seven months ago.

Cristiano Ronaldo is facing up to a month on the sidelines after aggravating an ankle injury while on international duty.
Ronaldo lasted less than half an hour of Portugal's 3-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Hungary on Saturday before limping off with a recurrence of an ankle problem.
The world's most expensive player has been troubled by a sprained ankle since Real's Champions League victory over Marseille on September 30.
He is now facing several more weeks on the sidelines.
"After a clinical examination and an MRI scan, it is confirmed the player has suffered a recurrence of his injury to his right ankle, a medial collateral sprain with inflammation in the bone," confirmed a Real Madrid statement.
"The estimated (recovery) time is three to four weeks."

Barcelona claim they are favourites to sign Franck Ribery if and when he is made available for transfer by Bayern Munich.
The Spanish club's director of football Txiki Begiristain has revealed that he is in close contact with his counterparts at the Allianz Arena after twice making approaches to sign the France international.
"We have a great relationship with Bayern Munich and eventually we told them we were interested in signing Ribery," he revealed.
"Twice we have asked how much they wanted for him and both times we were told he was not for sale. And it is true, because they said the same thing to Chelsea and Real Madrid.
"If Bayern Munich puts him on the market, we'll know first. Another thing is the price, of course."
